Description


The Corporate Produce Department, located in Phoenix, Arizona, has an opening for a National Commodity Specialist.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Develop strategic programs for improving specific category/commodities procurement.
Monitor and maintain inventory management efforts across multiple distribution centers.
Develop and present vendor marketing and promotional plans to assist marketing/merchandising to drive total category sales and profits.
Provide feedback on commodity quality conditions, product cost components, weather impact and related warehouse inventory issues.
Responsible to achieve the lowest cost of given quality in industry as part of sales operation.
Responsible for approving and issuing specific commodity purchase orders to supply all stores across the United States and Canada ? maintaining adequate inventory supplies in the distribution centers.
Interact with logistic teams and procurement to optimize load building.
Develop commodity volume incentive arrangements to improve department and company profitability.
Assist quality assurance staff in maintaining Safeway quality standards and altering purchasing decisions based on quality assurance reports.
Monitor store demand and in stock conditions across multiple distribution centers.
Travel required: 10%.

 Required Skills


Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:


4-Year college degree in Business/Marketing/Agricultural Business or equivalent produce industry experience.
3-5 years retail, backstage or produce field-merchandising experience.
3-5 years experience in fresh produce industry desired.
1-3 years negotiation/buying experience.
Retail/merchandising background a plus.
Computer skills including Word, Excel, Query Management Facility, SSIMS and web based programs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent Analytical skills and the ability to understand and maintain in stock inventory conditions.
Excellent team interpersonal skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while providing superior service to all divisions.
High energy level, initiative, creative problem solving ability and sense of urgency.
Ability to adapt to a negotiation and inventory management platform.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
