Costing Manager

Summary: Responsible for managing the Costing & Standards department to ensure accurate product costing, maintenance of direct labor standards, management of capital production equipment, and maintenance of Carhartt?s procedure library.  Conducts detailed cost analyses and presents findings as required for competitive cost comparisons, target pricing for globally outsourced items, and cost modeling for strategic decision making.  Assists with the development of labor, material, and overhead standards as required. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

? Manages the Costing & Standards department staff which is responsible for maintaining and approving direct labor standards at all facilities, prototype and final product costing, and managing capital production equipment. 

 

? Ensures that contractor costs and other costs associated with outsourced production are documented, analyzed, and advises Sourcing management of issues or improvement opportunities.

 

? Reviews PDM product specification packages for outsourced items to ensure they accurately and completely reflect the sourced product.

 

? Ensures the development of projected labor and material standards for CMT and managed full package programs to be used in cost analysis using General Sewing Data (GSD) and Quick Tru Cost as needed. 

 

? Assists Sourcing management by developing target prices for proposed sourcing programs to a certain program viability and to aid in negotiations. 

 

? Acts as a liaison with accounting to ensure accurate costs are maintained in the standard cost book and to answer questions as needed. 

 

? Develops cost comparisons and conducts cost modeling for Demand Fulfillment.

 

? Coordinates and presents competitive product comparisons to include a cost analysis, feature comparison, and material evaluation.

 

? Maintains Carhartt library of procedures and process flow maps by ensuring procedures and process flow maps are approved by the relevant process head and conform to requirements prior to publishing. 

 

? Remains knowledgeable of government policies, international trade issues, or other issues that may affect production costs.

 

? Assists in approving labor standards developed through GSD.

 

Qualifications:

 

? Associate or bachelor degree required or equivalent work experience, preferably in Industrial Engineering or related field.

 

? Minimum of 5 years management experience.

 

? Minimum of 5 years apparel industry experience with in-depth knowledge of product construction.

 

? Must be exceptionally detailed orientated and extremely inquisitive with a desire to understand underlying costs.

 

? Strong quantitative and analytical skills with an understanding of standard cost accounting and a demonstrated ability to evaluate problems using applied mathematics.

 

? General knowledge of international trade agreements as they may impact costs.

 

? GSD or equivalent certification required or must be able to obtain certification.

 

? Must posses excellent oral and written communications skills including presentation skills.

 

? Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

 

? Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and remain organized.

 

? Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Visio.

 

Working conditions:

 

? Plant environment.

 

? National and international travel required (20%-30%)
