Due to increased emphasis on its Logistics function, Guardian Industries has an opportunity for a Plant Logistics Manager at its Kingsburg, California plant.

 

The Plant Logistics Manager has a pivotal role in the ongoing process of improving proprietary fleet, transportation, logistics and supply chain management operations and processes spanning sales, plant, warehouse, carrier and customer service functions.  Given an era of rising fuel prices and ongoing shortages of surface transportation assets of all types, Guardian?s Plant Logistics Managers will be faced with challenges leading to the ability to make a significant impact on logistics cost and service.

The Plant Logistics Manager is responsible for investigating, assessing, analyzing, implementing and utilizing Logistical and Supply Chain Management tools, concepts, activities, internal and external resources to reduce logistics/supply chain costs while adding value to the goods and services provided by the plant to its customers.

 

Primary activities will be concerned with the facilities and logistics functions within or impacting operations at the Kingsburg, California plant.

 

Actively participates in the development of strategic long-range plans as well as continual improvement plans to support the continued growth and success of the Kingsburg plant and customer satisfaction.

 

Supports the growth of the Glass Division and Kingsburg plant by either managing innovative projects or representing Logistics as an integral member of innovation or new business development initiatives as required.  Manages initial project support through implementation.  If in charge of project:  identifies, defines and documents the initial project scope; undertakes and presents project benefit analysis; prepares and presents initial project resource allocation, project schedule and budget; and monitors achievement of project deliverables and metrics.

 

Incumbent will direct the efforts in dock scheduling; carrier management and use;  loading and transportation safety; and customer demand compliance.

 Position Responsibilities

 

?Responsible for Kingsburg?s Plant glass Logistic and Supply Chain activities, whether local, regional, national or international in scope within Canada, the United States and Mexico.  Monitors all NAFTA related issues.

?Seeks opportunities to reduce or contain logistics cost.

?Provides input related to the pricing of products based upon transportation cost as well as other logistical related cost data such as loading and securement costs.

?Discusses, coordinates and takes direction from the Plant Manager or Production Manager

?Develop and manage effective working relationships with functional counterparts at plant level as well as other Glass Division plant logistics managers.

?Manage and coordinate multifunctional projects within the Logistics / Supply Chain arena of the Kingsburg plant.

?Oversees or works closely with Plant and Logistics related personnel to manage Logistics / Supply Chain operations including regulatory compliance in matters pertaining to transportation.

?Develop and maintain effective carrier / third party provider relationships and fully understand their capabilities and limitations.

?Plan for current and future carrier capacity requirements.

?Determine the most effective and efficient use of all carrier resources.

?Determines feasibility and proper application of proprietary carriage.  Ensures regulatory compliance and monitors application, expansion and contraction of such operations.

?Sets direction to ensure regulatory compliance in all matters pertaining to Logistics.

?Interfaces with carriers and other Plant logistics functions to maintain required service levels; eliminate obstacles having an adverse impact on customer service; and carrier actions to improve areas exhibiting service failures.

?Integrates the efforts of Logistics, Sales and Carrier management to render effective exchange of load and capacity requirements and  customer service expectations and results.

?Initiates and implements Logistics / Supply Chain Management tools designed to meet goals and improve service.  Fosters use of both specialized and commonly accepted measurements of performance and reports.

?Monitors issues related to glass breakage and the improvement thereof, including freight claims.

?Accountable for project deliverables. Skills

 
BS, BBA or MBA degree

?5 years Logistics experience with meaningful exposure to Finance, Manufacturing, Planning, Operation Analysis,

  Financial Analysis, Transportation and Warehousing, Carrier and Third Party Negotiations and Management
Excel, PowerPoint
Position requires a wide and varied background focused on Logistics / Supply Chain with a firm understanding of functional business relationships in total.
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking a must.
Leadership, interpersonal, administrative, communications (both written and verbal), and negotiation skills.
Project management experience.

 

Must be customer focused, team oriented and results driven.
