Recycling/Solid Waste Management Supervisor

We have an immediate opening for a recycling/solid waste management supervisor to report to the manager of Grounds Services in MIT's Department of Facilities.  This position is responsible for continuously improving MIT's recycling program through the development and implementation of educational programs, collaboration with campus recycling and environmental groups, enhancing collection procedures, and adding to the list of solid waste groups to be recycled with a focus on improving the financial return on MIT's recycled waste and increasing its overall recycling efforts.  You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining commercial relationships, contracts, schedules and performance criteria with selected vendors for recycling, waste removal, and other services.

Will supervise six union employees in all matters of recycling, in addition to scheduling, coordinating, and supervising customer-requested moving services of office furniture and equipment.  As a member of the grounds management team, you may be required to act as grounds supervisor or manager for absences and to supervise the landscape teams.  Must have the personal flexibility to respond to periodic emergencies and events including MIT commencement.

Requirements:  a degree in horticulture, business, industrial engineering, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and at least five years of recycling or solid waste management.  A minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required, with preference given to those with experience in a union environment.  Must possess excellent PC skills including experience with Excel, Word, and web searching.  Must have the personal flexibility needed to work consecutive or additional shifts and/or during emergencies or special Institute events such as commencement.
