Safety Manager:

Summary: Plans and directs the occupational safety and health and fleet safety programs for one or more subsidiary companies.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manages all occupational safety and health program elements and activities to achieve safety goals and objectives while ensuring each company maintains a comprehensive safety program fitted to its unique operations and exposures, and complies with applicable regulatory agency and corporate requirements.

 

Hazard Recognition and Control: Ensures implementation of methods or procedures designed to identify, evaluate, and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors that could result in personal injury or illness, violations of safety and health code or regulations, or property damage. Performs job hazard analyses, conducts safety observations and reviews reports of safety observations performed by others. Develops countermeasures to resolve problems identified by inspections, safety observations, investigations and accident trend analyses.

 

Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with regulations promulgated by regulatory agencies such as Cal/OSHA, federal OSHA, the Department of Transportation, the California Highway Patrol, and applicable consensus standards such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

 

Safety Training: Facilitates safety training of supervisors, managers, and hourly employees. Provides programs and instruction designed to give employees the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their job tasks safely, and carry out their safety responsibilities effectively.

 

Accident Investigation an Analysis: Investigates accidents to establish facts related to their causation, and obtain information useful in preventing recurrences of similar accidents. Reviews accident investigation reports prepared by supervisors or managers. Analyzes accident investigation reports to identify loss trends.

 

Claims Reporting and Analysis: ensures the timely reporting of workers' compensation and liability claims to the appropriate Third Party Administrator (TPA). Coordinates and monitors the claims administration practices of the TPA to facilitate expedient and cost-effective resolution and closure of claims.

 

Regularly requires coordination of work of three or more employees who are not subordinates. Includes gaining cooperation, planning, and evaluating work performed.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or closely related health and science fields or equivalent knowledge and experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred. Requires 4+ years experience in occupational safety and health program management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Detailed knowledge of: state and federal safety and health related issues and regulations; general occupational safety and health and commercial vehicle safety management principles; California's workers' compensation laws and administrative procedures. Ability to read, understand and interpret safety and health-related laws, conduct effective training programs with employees of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. Must possess basic computer skills commensurate with job duties.
