SOLID WASTE HANDLER

 

Loyola Marymount University?s Department of Facilities Management has an opening for a Solid Waste Handler. This position is responsible for conducting the primary daily tasks required for the completion of the University?s integrated solid waste management plan.  This includes servicing disposal needs in an environment with a large on-site residential population and many special events.

 

Primary responsibilities include insuring the daily solid waste management tasks required by the University?s solid waste management plan are accomplished in a safe, timely, and sanitary manner.  This position supports the campus community with a wide variety of non-regular solid waste transport and disposal service calls as directed by the Solid Waste Management & Recycling Supervisor.  This support often requires the skilled operation of forklifts, tractors, and industrial vehicles.  Operating compactors, balers, and other industrial machines and hardware as required to fulfill campus needs.  Troubleshooting and conducting minor repairs and maintenance.  The incumbent acts as a point of contact for major repairs and routine maintenance. The person in this position must be available to provide solid waste disposal support for all regular and non-routine special events.  Provides solid waste disposal support periodically required by LMU Grounds and Building Maintenance sections for major projects.  Assure maximum utilization of all roll-off containers and compactors through proper loading/cutting/stacking of discards generated by the University.  Assist with maintaining the order, cleanliness, and operational capability of the Facility Management Yard.  This care extends to other areas of campus required for solid waste management & recycling activities.

We seek candidates who have graduated from high school or equivalent preferred.  Candidates should have at least six months of experience in waste management, recycling, or related operational endeavors.
